Navratri and Dussehra dates in 2026

DayDate
Navratri begins (Ghatasthapana)Sunday, 11 October 2026
Durga AshtamiMonday, 19 October 2026
Dussehra (Vijayadashami)Tuesday, 20 October 2026

Dates follow the Hindu lunar calendar and can differ by a day between regions. Check your local panchang if you are planning a post for a specific tithi.

What you need

  • 1 to 10 photos or short video clips: the ghatasthapana at home, the pandal, garba night, the family in that day's colour.
  • A phone or laptop with a browser. Nothing to install.
  • About two minutes.

The Free Short Video Maker runs entirely in your browser. Your photos are not uploaded to any server.

Step by step

  1. Open the maker with the Navratri preset. The link above fills in the message 'नवरात्रि की शुभकामनाएं!' for you. For Dussehra, use the Dussehra preset.
  2. Add photos or clips. One photo is enough. If you add clips, each clip keeps its own sound, so a few seconds of dhol or aarti carries into the video.
  3. Pick music. Search the free library for "garba", "dandiya", "devotional" or "festive". If you have your own bhajan or garba track as an audio file, choose Use your own audio.
  4. Add the message. Keep the preset or type your own. Add a name ("from the Sharma family") if you like, and choose a text colour that stands out against your photos.
  5. Make the video and share. The video is a 9:16 MP4 at 720×1280 with no watermark. Save it, then post it as a Status, a Reel or a Short.

Ideas for each part of the festival

One video per day

Each of the nine days has its own form of the goddess and, by popular tradition, its own colour. A single photo in that day's colour with the day's name as the message makes a simple daily Status. Because one photo is enough, this takes less time than choosing a ready-made image from a gallery, and it is your own picture.

Garba night recap

Mix three or four photos with two short clips from the garba floor. Set photos to 2 seconds each so the video keeps pace with the music. Use Fill framing for portrait photos and Fit for wide group shots so nobody is cropped out.

Ashtami and Navami

Kanya pujan photos work well with a slow devotional track and the fade-in text animation. Keep the message short; the photos carry the meaning.

Dussehra

For Vijayadashami, a Ravan dahan clip followed by a family photo and the message 'दशहरा की हार्दिक शुभकामनाएं!' is all you need. A 5-second clip is plenty: fireworks and flames look best when the video is short.

Tips for a cleaner video

  • Choose bright photos. Pandal lighting is dim; pick the sharpest shots and skip the blurred ones.
  • Keep text inside the middle of the frame. Apps place their own buttons at the top and bottom of a vertical video.
  • Trim clips. Two or three seconds of the best moment beats fifteen seconds of waiting for it.
  • Check the sound. If a clip has crowd noise you do not want, leave that clip out or trim to a quieter part.

Posting to each app

  • WhatsApp Status: open Updates, tap Add status and pick the video from your gallery.
  • Instagram Reels: tap +, choose Reel and pick the video. The music is already in the file.
  • YouTube Shorts: tap +, choose Upload a video and pick the file.

Each app has its own maximum length and changes it from time to time. If your video is too long for one of them, make a shorter version with fewer photos.
