Moonrise time changes from city to city. Look it up locally on the day; this guide does not list times because a wrong time is worse than none.

What makes a good Karwa Chauth video

The day has a natural order, and a video that follows it tells a small story:

  1. Morning: the sargi thali before sunrise.
  2. Afternoon: mehndi on the hands, the outfit laid out, bangles.
  3. Evening: the puja thali and the katha.
  4. Night: the moon through the sieve, then the first sip of water.

Four or five photos in this order, three seconds each, make a 12 to 15 second video. That is long enough to tell the day and short enough that people watch to the end.

Step by step

  1. Open the Free Short Video Maker with the Karwa Chauth preset. The message 'करवा चौथ की शुभकामनाएं!' is filled in for you.
  2. Add your photos in order. You can also add a short clip, such as the moment the moon is sighted; the clip keeps its own sound.
  3. Choose music. In the free library, search "romantic", "love" or "wedding". To use a track from your phone, choose Use your own audio (MP3, M4A, AAC or WAV, up to 15 MB).
  4. Edit the message if you like and add a name. Warm colours such as yellow or white read well over red and maroon outfits.
  5. Make the video. It is a 720×1280 vertical MP4 with no watermark.

Three ways to use it

A wish for your partner

Put the partner's name in the Name field and use the typewriter animation, which writes the name letter by letter. Send it in chat as well as posting it as a Status.

A family video

If several women in the family keep the fast together, a group photo from the puja with one line of text is enough. Use Fit framing for wide group photos so no one at the edge is cut off.

A first Karwa Chauth

For a first Karwa Chauth after the wedding, begin with one wedding photo, then the day's photos. The contrast between the two makes the video.

Photo tips

  • Mehndi: photograph it in daylight near a window. Flash flattens the colour.
  • The moon: phone cameras struggle with it. A photo of the sieve and the face lit by the diya is usually better than the moon itself.
  • Thali: shoot from directly above with the diya lit.

Where to post

The same file works as a WhatsApp Status, an Instagram Reel and a YouTube Short. For a Reel or a Short that the public can see, use a track from the free library; a copyrighted song can get the audio muted.

After Karwa Chauth, the festival season continues with Dhanteras on 6 November and Diwali on 8 November. The same maker has presets for both.

Frequently asked questions

When is Karwa Chauth in 2026?

Karwa Chauth 2026 is on Thursday, 29 October. Moonrise time differs by city, so check a local source on the day.

Can I add my partner's name to the video?

Yes. Type the name in the Name field in Step 3 and it appears with the message over your photos.

Can I use a film song?

The maker lets you use any audio file you have on your device. Popular film songs are copyrighted, so a public Reel or Short with one may be muted or removed by the platform. For public posts, a track from the free library is the safer choice.

Does it work on an iPhone?

Yes. It works in Safari on iPhone and in Chrome on Android, with nothing to install.
