How Ashtami and Navami fall in 2026

Navratri lasts nine nights, but the lunar days (tithis) do not always match the calendar days. This year Saptami runs across Saturday 17 and Sunday 18 October, so the tithis slip one day against the day count.

  • By day count: Day 8 is Sunday 18 October (Mahagauri) and Day 9 is Monday 19 October (Siddhidatri). Many calendars label them Ashtami and Navami.
  • By tithi (Drik Panchang, New Delhi): Durga Ashtami is Monday 19 October, and the Navami tithi is marked on Tuesday 20 October, the same day as Dussehra. Vedpanchang also lists Maha Navami on 20 October.
  • Other sources differ: some name 19 October for both Ashtami and Navami, and one source gives Dussehra as 21 October. We use 20 October, which most calendars give.

If you keep the Ashtami fast, kanya pujan or havan, ask your priest or check a local panchang for the exact time in your city.

Lunar dates can differ by a day between regions and cities. Check a local panchang before fixing a puja time.

How to make a daily Navratri video

One photo in the day's colour is enough.

  1. Open the Free Short Video Maker. The Navratri message is already filled in.
  2. Add one photo: your puja thali, your outfit in the day's colour, or the pandal.
  3. Pick a devotional or garba track, or use your own audio file.
  4. Make the video and post it as a Status, Reel or Short. It carries a small id8 mark.

Nine short videos work better than one long one. The full steps are in the Navratri status video maker guide.

Frequently asked questions

Which day is Durga Ashtami in 2026?

Navratri's eighth day is Sunday 18 October, and many calendars name that day Ashtami. Drik Panchang for New Delhi puts Durga Ashtami on Monday 19 October because Saptami runs across two days. Kanya pujan and Sandhi Puja are listed for 19 October. Check your local panchang.

What colour should I wear on each day of Navratri?

The most common list is orange, white, red, royal blue, yellow, green, grey, purple and peacock green for days 1 to 9. It is a custom, not scripture, so the order changes between regions and families.

When is Dussehra in 2026?

Dussehra (Vijayadashami) is on Tuesday 20 October 2026 across most of India. In Bengal, Vijaya Dashami is on Wednesday 21 October.

When is Chaitra Navratri in 2027?

Chaitra Navratri 2027 begins on Wednesday 7 April, and Ram Navami is on Thursday 15 April. This page will be updated with the day-wise dates.
