id8’s Free Voiceover Recorder adds your voice to a video. Pick a video, talk while it plays, and save a new video with your voice on it. The recording and the video making run inside your browser, so your video and your voice are never uploaded. It is free, with no sign-up and no daily limit. Every video carries a small id8 mark.
How to add a voiceover to a video
- Choose a video up to 3 minutes long. It stays on your device.
- Turn on the microphone when your browser asks. Say a few words and check the level bar moves.
- Record. The video plays from the start and you talk over it. You can pause and carry on, or record again.
- Choose what happens to the video’s own sound: keep it quieter under your voice, or remove it. You can also add a free song as background music.
- Make the video and download it. Keep the page open while it works.
Tips for a clear voiceover
- Record in a quiet room and hold the phone at a steady distance.
- The video is silent while you record, so its sound is not picked up by the microphone. To hear it, switch on “Play the video’s sound while I record” and wear headphones.
- Keep the screen on. If you lock the phone or take a call, the recording pauses and you can carry on afterwards.
- Use a computer for long or large videos: it makes the video much faster.
Is it safe? Where do my video and my voice go?
Nowhere. The video is read by your browser, the microphone is recorded by your browser, and the new video is made there too, with FFmpeg running inside the page. Nothing is sent to us. Anonymous technical numbers, such as the video’s length and size, help us fix problems. This page does not record your screen, and analytics here does not record the text you see or what you click. Yes. Every video has a small id8 mark that moves around the picture. It cannot be turned off.

Up to 3 minutes. The largest file depends on your device: about 80 MB on phones with little memory, 200 MB on most phones, and 550 MB on a computer.
