What id8 is
id8.co.in is a free suite of single-purpose tools that solve specific developer and AI problems. The site shipped on 2026-02-15 and now hosts 10+ live tools and 40+ in-depth blog posts. Every tool here meets four rules:
- Free forever, with no signup, no account, no email-gating.
- No upload, ever. Your photos, your text, your data never leave your browser. We use client-side processing (WebAssembly, FFmpeg.wasm, in-browser inference where possible).
- No tracking, no ads. We use Amplitude for anonymous page-view analytics — that's it. No third-party trackers, no remarketing pixels, no affiliate redirects.
- Open source. The full source is at github.com/kgrv/id8.co.in under Apache-2.0.
Who built it
id8 is built and maintained by Kumar Gaurav (@kgrv on GitHub), a software engineer based in India. The project started as a personal scratch-itch — a VRAM calculator that didn't require me to upload anything to a stranger's server — and grew into a broader suite as friends kept asking *"hey, can you also build a thing that does X?"*
Why "built for the Indian internet user"
India is mobile-first, often 4G-connected, often on mid-range Android, and increasingly multilingual. id8 is engineered with those constraints in mind:
- Mobile-first performance. Target Core Web Vitals on a mid-range Android over 4G: LCP under 2.5s, INP under 200ms.
- Hindi-first content where it matters. The Free Short Video Maker ships with native Hindi text presets — "हैप्पी बर्थडे!", "दिवाली की शुभकामनाएं!", "नया साल मुबारक!" — for users who don't want to switch keyboard layouts.
- No data leaves your phone. On a low data cap, uploading a 10MB video to "process" it costs real money. We don't ask for that.
- Free, transparent benchmarks. The LLM Leaderboard ranks 90+ AI models with every score linked to its primary source — no marketing copy, no "trust us".
What id8 won't do
These are the rules I'd want a tool I trust to follow. So id8 follows them:
- We will never sell or share user data, because we never collect identifiable data in the first place.
- We will never add a paid tier that gates current features behind a paywall. Free things stay free.
- We will never add a watermark to a generated video, image, or text output.
- We will never add an AI chatbot just because it's trendy. Each tool does one thing well.
- We will never show ads. Operating cost is small enough that I can run id8 forever without revenue.
How accuracy is maintained
The LLM-related tools are only useful if the data is right. id8's policy:
- All VRAM formulas in the calculators are documented in the source (can-i-run-llm.js) and audited against vendor papers + community benchmarks.
- Every benchmark score on the leaderboard stores its source URL in data/models.json and surfaces it in the UI. If a number changed between vendors, you can see exactly where it came from.
- The leaderboard refreshes monthly via a documented runbook that fetches from HuggingFace, vendor pricing pages, and benchmark aggregators with two-source verification.
- Found a wrong number? Open an issue at github.com/kgrv/id8.co.in/issues. I'll fix it within a week and credit you in the commit.
