How to Make a Status Video from a Single Photo and a Song

Last updated: October 2, 2026

Sometimes you have one good photo and want it to carry a song and a line of text. That is a video, and it takes about a minute to make. Here is how, with tips for making a single still photo feel alive.

One photo is enough. Free, no watermark, no login.

Why turn a photo into a video

A photo posted as a Status is silent. The same photo as a video can carry a few seconds of a song and a line of text, and the slow movement added to the photo makes people look for a moment longer. It is the simplest kind of video there is, and often the right one: a birthday wish, a memory, a new profile-worthy portrait.

Step by step

  1. Open the Free Short Video Maker.
  2. Add your photo. One is enough.
  3. Set how long it shows. Choose between 2 and 5 seconds. For a single photo, 5 seconds works best.
  4. Choose Fill or Fit. Fill makes the photo cover the whole vertical frame, cropping the sides of a wide photo. Fit shows the entire photo with a soft background behind it.
  5. Add a song. Search the free library, or choose Use your own audio to add a file from your device (MP3, M4A, AAC or WAV, up to 15 MB). Pick the part of the song you want; the video uses only a few seconds, so choose the line that matters.
  6. Add a message if you want one, with a name, a colour and an animation.
  7. Make the video and save it.

Making one still photo feel alive

The slow zoom. The maker adds a gentle pan and zoom to photos, often called the Ken Burns effect. On a single photo it is the difference between a picture and a video.

The right five seconds of music. With so little time, the opening of a song is usually wasted. Move the audio selection to the hook or the line you want heard.

Animated text. The typewriter animation writes the message letter by letter, and fade-in brings it up softly. Either one gives the eye something that changes.

A sticker. A small animated sticker, such as a heart or a celebration burst, adds movement without covering the photo.

Need it longer than five seconds?

A single photo shows for up to 5 seconds. For a longer video:

  • Add the same photo twice or three times. Each copy gets its own zoom, so the result looks like a slow continuous move rather than a repeat.
  • Add a second, related photo. A close-up and a wider shot of the same moment work well together.
  • Add a short clip. Even three seconds of video after the photo makes the whole thing feel filmed.

Which photos work best

  • Portraits with space above the head, so text has somewhere to sit.
  • Photos taken in portrait orientation, which fill a vertical screen.
  • Sharp, well-lit photos. The zoom magnifies blur.
  • For wide photos, such as a group or a landscape, choose Fit so that nobody is cropped out.

Frequently asked questions

Can I really make a video with only one photo?

Yes. The maker needs at least one photo or one clip. A single photo is shown with a slow zoom for the length you choose.

How long will a one-photo video be?

As long as you set the photo to show: 2 to 5 seconds. To make it longer, add the same photo again or add a second photo.

Will the whole song play?

No. The music is cut to the length of the video and fades out at the end. You choose which part of the song plays.

Is the photo uploaded?

No. The video is made in your browser and the photo stays on your device.
